At NVP rehearsals, we have a tradition of having one of our members teach the group a tag at the end of rehearsal.  I personally love hearing our chorus sing tags – the sound is so different than just doing them as a quartet.  At our rehearsal last night, our own Jayson Wilson taught us a tag with which I wasn’t familiar – the “Falling in Love is Grand” tag.  It starts with this cool minor cadence that uses a Chinese 7th to transition to major, and ends…

Day 6: Harmony Foundation show, Quartet Finals and TAGS!

This morning started out with a special surprise from our own Sean Kelly.  He went to Sing With the Champs and sang “Grow Old With You” with OC Times.  At the end, he stepped out and proposed to his girlfriend (Katie) in front of everyone, who tearfully accepted.  To help you all share in the moment, we took a video for you.

Day 3: Quartet Quarters and NVP Rehearsal 1

After being up writing for our dear readers until about 3:30 last night, we awoke at 9:00 to catch free breakfast two out of three and head over to the venue for the first portion of the quartet quarterfinal contest.  We got there just in time to see mic testers Vocal Spectrum push the limits of the treble and bass gain on the quartet mics.  Out of all of the times I’ve seen them, this was the smoothest…
